Message from Noah

New Urban Community,

It is bittersweet that I am sharing with you my departure from New Urban High School as Principal at the end of this school year. I will join the Lake Oswego School District as part of the high school Administrative team. I write this letter with mixed emotions as I have been part of the New Urban and Oak Grove Community for the last six years. I am extremely proud of our school and feel deep ownership of accomplishments, alongside our students and staff who are part of this school. I will leave this position with immense gratitude and I am humbled every day by the selfless commitment from our New Urban staff. Our school has incredible energy, care for one another, and commitment to supporting our students in their educational endeavors. I leave with excitement about the opportunities coming our way. With a new building on the horizon, an energized commitment to student academic success for all student groups, and a creative schedule to bring back some components of staff teaming and projects, New Urban is positioned to have a great year.

I will miss all of you very much. We call ourselves a Community School and New Urban has never wavered in its commitment to this concept. The community will continue marching forward. I’m excited to see the great things that are coming.

Please be on the lookout for a community survey in which you can share your desires and priorities for a new Principal at New Urban High School. You can reach out to myself, Shay James, our Executive Director of High Schools or Alix Loeber, our Associate Director of Secondary Programs with any further questions.

Thank you; it has been my honor to serve you,

Noah Hurd, Principal

Volunteers Needed for Senior Internship Evaluations

New Urban High School’s Senior Internship program is looking for community members who would like to share their skills, experience and expertise with our seniors by assessing final presentations.
Presentations are Wednesday, May 29th through Friday, May 31st. One-hour (or more) time slots are available from 9-12 and 12:30-2:30 each day.

The senior internship program helps students explore how they will fit into the professional world by combining several projects which require a wide range of skills. As a culminating event of the year-long project, seniors prepare a presentation of learning which will showcase how they’ve prepared for life after high school.

A scoring guide will be available for all panel members as soon as they volunteer, but generally, student work is assessed in three ways: by the quality of the presenting, by the quality of the presentation and by the quality of the learning throughout the year.

Please contact Anna Scarpino at scarpinoa@nclack.k12.or.us if you have questions or if you are ready to volunteer some time.  Thank you for considering helping our students and our program.
