Community Volunteers Needed for Senior Presentations

New Urban High School’s senior internship program is looking for community members who would like to share their skills, experience and expertise with our seniors by assessing final presentations during the last week in May.

The senior internship program helps students explore how they will fit into the professional world. The internship program, like the real world of employment, combines several projects which require a wide range of skills.

As a culminating event of the year-long course, seniors prepare a presentation of learning which will showcase their growth and knowledge. A scoring guide will be available for all panel members.

Presentations are 9-11 and 12:30-3:30 on May 22nd, 23rd and 24th. Each presentation is 15-25 minutes with Q and A session after.

If you’d like to volunteer, please email our senior teacher, Anna Scarpino at

New Urban Library and Workshop

NCEF Check PresentationNew Urban has never had a formal Library. Books have been scattered across multiple classrooms and storage areas. Having a library has been a long standing dream for our school. Today, the North Clackamas Education Foundation presented us with their largest ever single donation to turn that dream into a reality. We will be converting part of our computer lab into a library. Along with funds for a library, NCEF gave us funds to build out a wood workshop in our lower level.

We will keep you updated as we work to transform this space into a much needed library for our students. Thanks to everyone that made this possible.

New Urban News, January 16th, 2018

New Urban Community,

Our new trimester has begun and so far we’ve been lucky in avoiding snow days! We recently held a very successful Financial Realities Fair for our Seniors and our AVID students. Kids had an opportunity to feel what it’s like to balance bills against a monthly income! A few quick updates about upcoming events:

Our first basketball game is today! 5:00 at Reynolds Middle School we will be playing Springwater Trail High School. Games will be every Tuesday at 5:00 until March 13th– the Final Tourney date.

Grades will be updated in ParentVue for all classes February 2nd. Use this opportunity to check on your student’s grades and let us know if you need any assistance with this.

March 15th will be our second Exhibition of Learning this year– more details to come on this.

Our students are currently taking a nationally normed assessment (test) to measure their ability in Reading and Math. It’s called the STAR assessment. As soon as we have results we will be sending these home to you so you have some sense of their ability in the two major subjects. This tests helps inform us as well about how to best teach your student. It’s also a rather quick test, typically taking no more than a class period. If you have questions about this, or how to understand the scores you receive feel free to give us a call.
